HOW MANY PHOTOS SHOULD I SEND?
The number of photos you send for your photobook depends on how "simple" or "crowded" you want it to look. Below we've estimated the number of photos that work well for each book. Our estimates allow for a mix of clean spreads and detailed pages, but keep in mind these are just estimates - there may be more or less in your photobook. Also below are the max number of photos we edit for each book. You may send more than this amount, and we will narrow them down for you. We then edit what we've narrowed down, return the edited photos to you, and pick from the edited photos to use in your photobook. Here's an example of how we typically work when it comes to handling photos:
A client purchases a medium book (50 pages). For that we estimate around 120 photos will fit for a nice mix of clean spreads and detailed pages. However, this client sends us 200 photos from her trip. During her trip, she stayed in one of those once in a lifetime hotel suites, and she happened to captured every inch of the room. Of course she wants to remember a place that's so spectacular! In this case, we did the spread with two of the best images on the left-hand side, and then on the right, we included a ton of photos! About 12-16 images on one page! Rather than "wasting" more real estate on room photos, we fit all of these details one page, and she got to remember every aspect of her amazing hotel room. While we don't typically put that many photos on one page, it made sense in this case. Her photobook ended up having a little more than the estimated 120 photos in it, which is why that number is only an estimate. It depends on the circumstance and the story.
Every book is as unique as the people in it, and the experiences captured, so there are always exceptions to the number of photos.
We like to do a mix of clean spreads and pages (with single/few images), and crowded spreads and pages (with multiple/many images). At checkout there's an option for you to pick a style preference, if you have one (cleaner pages = less photos, crowded pages = more photos), otherwise we do a mix of both. Don't worry, no matter what, you receive a digital proof of your photobook prior to printing, and are able to make changes.
OTHER IMAGE DETAILS
So I can send you my photos and you will narrow them down for me?
Yes, of course! We are a service that does it all for you. So say you just returned from a trip and don't want to spend your time narrowing down all the photos, that's fine! We'll do it for you! And if you have a few favorites, that's great too - just note the file name at checkout, and we'll be sure to include them!
For example, say you just returned from a trip to Disney. You purchased a medium (50 page) book, but took 600 photos! Send them all to us, and we'll narrow them down to the 200 best. Those 200 photos will get edited, returned for you to download (via a link that's e-mailed to the address provided at checkout), and then out of those 200 edited photos we'll make your photobook. We estimate around 120 of the 200 edited images will make the final product, but it could be more or less. Every photobook is unique.
We accept many types of photo files, but prefer the .jpeg or .jpg formats. The most important part of the file is the resolution (detailed below)
Photos MUST be high resolution images, otherwise they will not print well. Optimal resolution is 300 dpi.
Make sure YOU save the original photos. DO NOT send us your only copy of the photos. We are not responsible for original images. Always place your order number on anything you mail us.
We encourage and invite you to let us know your favorite images by giving us the file name in the order notes at checkout. We will be sure to showcase them in an extra special way!
